The Brief: Flaunt Digital’s SEO team was appointed to prepare and deploy a migration from O Beach Ibiza’s old domain, “oceanbeachibiza.com”, to a domain that was in line with the new branding, “obeachibiza.com“.

The Challenges: One week after the initial migration, Google’s crawlers had still failed to recognise the new domain in “Ocean Beach Ibiza”-related SERPs. Flaunt Digital’s SEO team pinpointed this and decided to carry out further in-depth checks to ensure there had been no issues with the migration, although no errors were found.

The team made the decision to update meta descriptions and page titles across the site to include the term “ocean”. In addition, the SEO team reached out to external websites that linked to O Beach Ibiza’s old domain asking if they could amend the links to reflect the rebrand, with the intention of boosting the authority of the new domain.

What We Did: The Flaunt Digital team initially proposed three different stages for the website migration. The first stage included a full website crawl, building out new brand keywords, composing a new robots.txt file and a redirect map of the full site, as well as other crucial pre-migration analysis.

On the go-live date the Flaunt team migrated and tested all tracking, implemented and tested the redirects, updated and submitted new XML sitemap and robots.txt files, tested HREF LANG and updated the page titles, meta descriptions and on-page copy across the full site. The team also added an annotation to Google Analytics to represent the date that the domains had switched.

Over the following weeks, Flaunt Digital continued to monitor Google Search Console and the indexed URL count for errors, as well as testing other crucial elements of the site’s performance. In addition, Flaunt Digital’s SEO team reached out to external websites that linked to O Beach Ibiza’s old domain asking if they could amend the links to reflect the rebrand.
